Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Works with users to prepare requirements and analyses for enhancements to existing systems or the development of new systems. Develops functional scope and design documentation for enhancements to existing systems.
  • Installs, configures and maintains cyber security systems, operating systems and software applications used in conjunction with these systems.
  • Designs application enhancements and projects. Writes programming specifications based on system design.
  • Codes applications or supports application development. Performs testing and troubleshoots problems found in testing, project development, production application or with the application environment.
  • Supervises and manages vendors installing products. Supports and maintains vendor packages in production. Performs high level applications testing for technology upgrades as necessary.
  • Makes recommendations for improving application design and implementation of process changes or changes in the business or technology environment. Follows up on recommendations, develops tangible implementation proposals and detailed plans.
  • Establishes priorities and plans to keep all project tasks on schedule.
  • Configures and maintains data, databases and displays related to the Smart Grid systems and processes.
  • Actively monitors and maintains compliance with Cyber Security Standards. Activities include patch management of system equipment, anti-virus updates/upgrades, system health/intrusion detection and other systems functions as needed.
  • Develops appropriate plans and processes for the coordinated sharing of data, based on the requirements of departments, systems, and users.
  • Administers the backup and recovery of Smart Grid Engineering's, engineering and real time control systems.
  • Maintains and supports the data historian application and its interfaces.
  • Performs other related assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electical,
  • or Computer Engineering
  • (BSEE is preferred) And a minimum of 3 years work experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Experience in in Electrical or Mechanical automation, SCADA systems, or Electrical Engineering. Required
  • Technical experience in operations, engineering, system operations or information services. Required
  • Experience in logic programming or configuration of any automation control device; PLCs, DCS, other logical automation devices. Required
  • Familiar with database structures and queries. Required
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff and various levels of management. Required
  • Computer literacy and proficency in Microsoft Office Suite. Required
  • Work well in team situations, be willing and able to lead and participate in crossfunctional teams as equired. Required
  • Willing and available to be on call, work off-shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime, as operating and system conditions required. Required
  • Able to travel to various Company locations and to other companies, if required. Must be available to travel out-of-town for meetings and conferences. Required
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines. Required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management. Required
  • Strong analytical, technical, and leadership skills. Required
  • Be able to participate in the Company's emergency management processes and storm plans as required. Required
  • Experience with R&D projects and prototype testing and development. Preferred
  • Experience with running projects. Preferred
  • Experience with Electric Control Relay programming. Preferred
  • Experience with real time control system applications. Preferred
  • Experience in design and configuration of a Human Machine Interface or SCADA systems for automation system visualization is required, Electric Utility SCADA is preferred. Preferred
  • Experience in the programming and configuration of serial communications between automation devices and to HMI/SCADA systems. Preferred
  • Radio communications and high speed network communications experience. Preferred
  • Experience and knowledge of electric utility distribution. Preferred
  • Familiarity with utility system design and construction. Preferred
  • Knowledge of eDNA, Oracle, ODBC, MS-Access, or MS-SQL Service. Preferred

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
