Job Description

  • Supervises the development of layouts and drawings using AutoCAD, Carlson Software and/or other surveying software such as CIVIL 3D and ESRI ArcView.
  • Supervises, plans, directs, and coordinates land survey crews responsible for plane, geodetic, and hydrographic surveying.
  • Writes, approves, and signs and seals legal descriptions, sketches, boundary surveys, right-of-way maps, and other significant Company documents.
  • Researches, recommends, and prepares solutions to hardware/software problems, and provide technical advice to staff.
  • Monitors survey contractors and Company employees for timely and accurate completion of work.
  • Exercise technical judgement and administrative oversight; independently perform a full range of professional surveying work assignments; provide project direction and planning.
  • Directs land, right-of-way, and location surveys, prepares land descriptions, final estimates, and miscellaneous office calculations.
  • Supervises and schedules technical staff engaged in computer aided map preparation, drafting of legal descriptions, title searches, and related activities.
  • Certifies plans, specifications, plats, reports, and other documents.
  • Conducts training programs for employees in proper work and safety methods.
  • Provides advice, education, and training in the areas of boundary and topographic surveys, types of easements, right of way determination, survey control, map projections, datums to datum conversion to other departments and divisions.
  • Monitors Survey Contractors for scheduling and payment.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • Associate's Degree Surveying or Survey Technology And 6 years of total work experience to include 2 years of previous supervisory experience, including field survey crew supervision and/or project management experience.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering and Surveying

Relevant Work Experience

  • Must have proven skills with GPS equipment, project set up, data acquisition, analysis and adjustment with Geodetic Coordinate values and transformations. Required
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines. Required
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, public officials, support staff, and various levels of management. Required
  • Must have strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills. Required
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Required
  • Must have computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments including Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project. Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel as needed.
  • Must be able and willing to travel to and within the Corporate service territory and for occasional out-of-area business meetings/conferences.
