Core Responsibilities

  • The energy industry is undergoing a transition to clean and sustainable energy. In this transformation, the utility will engage customers beyond the traditional energy efficiency offerings, and seek to influence investments in clean heat, efficient equipment optimization through advanced controls, deep and comprehensive energy savings projects, and waste heat recovery. The Clean Energy Program Design Section Manager will oversee the implementation of the company's next generation of energy efficiency programs by providing direction for developing and improving energy efficiency and electric heating programs across all customer segments; large commercial and industrial, small to medium business, multifamily, low to moderate income and disadvantaged communities, and 1 to 4-family residential. The Clean Energy Program Design Section Manager will lead a team of program designers in researching, analyzing, testing, and piloting, program improvements, new program offerings, and program delivery models that increase the department's capacity to achieve energy savings targets, and deliver a positive customer experience. The Program Design Section Manager should develop a design culture that focuses on quality programming guided by industry best practices and evidence-based methods, encourage innovative and sustainable solutions, and facilitate continuous improvement through impact measurement. The Clean Energy Program Design Section Manager will consider short term portfolio needs, current market challenges, and long-term priorities, and aim to optimize shared value for the Company, its customers, partners and other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the implementation of the company's next generation of energy efficiency programs by providing direction for developing and improving energy efficiency and electric heating programs across all customer segments; large commercial and industrial, small to medium business, multifamily, low to moderate income and disadvantaged communities, and 1 to 4-family residential.
  • Establish a customer-centric and impact driven, design framework and evaluative criteria for assessing new ideas and opportunities; developing appropriate training and documentation to build and standardize process.
  • Plan for and scope the impact of new initiatives and regulatory requirements through collaboration with Portfolio, Planning & Analysis to inform new program design projects.
  • Manage team resourcing and lead a team of program designers in researching, analyzing, testing, and piloting, program improvements, new program offerings, and program delivery models that increase the department's capacity to achieve energy savings targets, and deliver a positive customer experience.
  • Ensure that program offerings and market solutions comply with regulatory and other requirements, meet and exceed customers and trade ally partners expectations, are efficient and cost-effective in delivery, and are well supported by reasonable measures for success.
  • Continuously seek to improve program delivery processes and operations through review and assessment of program design impact against key priorities and objectives; and staying informed on industry trends and best practices.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and eight (8) years of work experience Or
  • Master's Degree six (6) years of work experience.

Relevant Work Experience

  • Experience leading a team of direct reports; assessing development needs, coaching giving continuous feedback. Req
  • leadership experience with program, product, and or process development, process improvement, program management and evaluation. Req
  • Knowledge and understanding of the design process, testing and design iteration in relevant field, and design industry best practices. Req
  • Demonstrated success in process improvement and change management. Req
  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to drive results by collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. Req
  • Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills, with excellent critical thinking. Req
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity, address work challenges, and handle multiple priorities and competing deadlines, making necessary decisions timely and with appropriate rigor. Req
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Req
  • Strong business writing and oral communication skills, including persuasive communication, ability to present organized and clear business case and recommendations. Req
  • Familiar with New York State's carbon reduction goals and other state/ city clean energy regulatory policies. Pref
  • Experience screening, assessing, and integrating new products and offerings into business operations. Pref
  • Experience with research, data interpretation, and data visualization and manipulation tools. Pref
  • Demonstrated success in cross-team collaboration to achieve a specific goal. Pref
  • Experience with energy efficiency or demand management programs, government/ agency housing programs, low-income programs, non-profit program management Pref

  • Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
