Core Responsibilities
- Must promote a strong safety culture and procedural adherence.
- Technicians will perform operational and electrical testing on distribution equipment including network and radial transformers, microprocessor-based relays, and network protector (air circuit breakers). Technicians will document observations and test findings in the corresponding reports.
- Technicians evaluate and analyze new prototype equipment; perform electrical acceptance testing, review and interpreting applicable technical materials (specifications, schematic wiring diagrams, nameplate, etc.)

- Work collaboratively and independently and must ensure that the Human Performance Improvements (HPI) tools are incorporated into daily work.
- Effectively communicate, adhere to the Company's Standards of Business Conduct, Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) protocols.
- Technicians work chiefly out of the Astoria Transformer Shop but may be expected to travel as needed to support the testing of network transformers installed in underground vaults.
- Ensures that all work is being performed in an effective manner and explore opportunities to enhance existing practices.
- Use and maintain misc. test equipment, handheld power tools; on occasion, use mechanical lifting equipment.
- Perform other tasks and assignments as required.
Required Education/Experience
- High School Diploma/GED with 2 years of academic programs completed in a Bachelors of Engineering program. Or High School diploma with 2 years of military academic programs to include one of the following: including Nuclear Electronics Technician, Nuclear Electrician, and Aviation Electronics Technician (or applicable) and 2 years experience in performing electrical component testing or troubleshooting involving using high/ low voltage test equipment and wiring diagrams Strong knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including three phase AC power systems, as well as a strong working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry. Candidates must have knowledge and experience with computer systems and must be able to use these to perform automated testing, as well as prepare spreadsheets and technical reports
- Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology, or related field of study and 1 year experience in performing electrical component testing or troubleshooting involving using high/ low voltage test equipment and wiring diagrams Strong knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including three phase AC power systems, as well as a strong working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry. Preferred Education/Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in a related field and applicable work experience is preferred and 1 year experience in performing electrical component testing or troubleshooting involving using high/ low voltage test equipment and wiring diagrams Strong knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical power theory and circuit analysis, including three phase AC power systems, as well as a strong working knowledge of mathematics and the ability to perform calculations involving basic trigonometry. Physical Demands
- Must work at field locations in all weather conditions
- Must perform heavy manual labor; i.e. pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Must work in an environment that includes heat, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Must work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Must work with and in the vicinity of high voltage and/or other high-energy systems
- Must be approved and able to wear either a full- or half-face respirator without facial hair or other condition that may interfere with the seal, in accordance with OSHA regulations.
- Must climb in and out of manholes and excavations
- Must stand, walk, and climb ladder and stairs for a whole shift
- Must wear all necessary personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including; fire retardant clothing and safety harness
- Must work with equipment with manufacturer weight rating of 350 llbs.
- Must be able to use equipment with a maximum weight rating of 375 lbs when wearing and/or carrying 25lbs of clothing and equipment.
