Core Responsibilities

  • For Specialist (1H) Role:
  • Ensure implementation of Company's safety, health and environmental programs. Ensures that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policies and governmental regulations.
  • Adhere to the Diversity and Inclusion initiatives that promote behavior consistent with the Company's and Corporate values relating to the treatment of peers, subordinates, superiors, customers, and the public.
  • Partner with Company weather experts to conduct weather risk assessments and system susceptibilities with the various operating organizations and capture and communicate the results of these assessments to help drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Research and present best practices in the industry to identify potential weather risk and potential mitigation / elimination and preparedness strategies. Leverage internal Company subject matter experts to Interact with the appropriate industry and government organizations to maximize this effort.
  • Develop working relationships with the regional operating areas, conduct field visits, and attend operational meetings in order to develop risk based correlation models that compare actual weather with historical event impacts.
  • Review operational priorities with customers and work with Manager to develop value added projects related to weather impact risk reduction. Ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner in accordance with the needs of the Manager and the various organizations that he/she supports. Develop and monitor project schedules to meet milestones/goals.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging weather systems that could impact the Company's service territory. Partner with internal weather experts to enhance methodologies for forecasting and modeling that will assist Emergency Preparedness customers mobilize and acquire the appropriate resources.
  • Participate in enhancing corporate and operating specific plans including the Corporate Coastal Storm Plan, Electric Emergency Response Plan, etc.
  • Assist operations with weather analysis to evaluate potential weather events, real time and weather declarations and work with weather consultants as necessary.
  • Participate in project teams and collaborate with the appropriate Company departments (Engineering departments, R&D, Distribution Engineering, Control Centers etc.) and outside contractors who provide services. Participate in meetings to coordinate project efforts.
  • Provide data support and analysis to project leaders for various risk assessment projects, e.g., installation of additional weather stations, analytical tools, etc.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly records of actual weather conditions compared to forecasted weather. Consult internal weather experts in order to produce daily risk weather assessments, prepare monthly weather station data, and other weather related reports.
  • Prepare reports for weather Project Specialist to communicate weather forecast data and job impact on all operational calls, e.g., CERC events, Operational calls, inter-regional, etc.
  • Other related assignments as required.
  • For Project Specialist (2H) role:
  • Conduct weather risk assessments and system susceptibilities with the various operating organizations and capture and communicate the results of these assessments to help drive continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Develop and execute benchmarking strategies to identify potential weather risk and potential mitigation / elimination and preparedness strategies. Interact with the appropriate industry and government organizations to maximize this effort.
  • Work with the regional operating areas to develop risk based correlation models that compare actual weather with historical event impacts.
  • Ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner in accordance with the needs of the various organizations. Develop and monitor project schedules to meet milestones/goals. Projects should be suggested based on industry experience or completed at the Manager's suggestion.
  • Monitor and evaluate emerging weather forecasting and modeling technologies that will assist Emergency Preparedness customers mobilize and acquire the appropriate resources. New technologies should be prioritized and presented to leadership for consideration.
  • Participate in enhancing corporate and operating specific plans including the Corporate Coastal Storm Plan, Electric Emergency Response Plan, etc.
  • Assist operations with weather analysis to evaluate potential weather events, real time and weather declarations and work with weather consultants as necessary. This involves scheduling periodic meetings, leading discussions, outlining logic for job forecasts, etc.
  • Liaison between project teams and appropriate Company departments (Engineering departments, R&D, Distribution Engineering, Control Centers etc.) and outside contractors who provide services. Conduct and lead meetings to coordinate project efforts.
  • Serve as project lead and provide team leadership for various risk assessment projects, e.g., installation of additional weather stations, analytical tools, etc.
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly records of actual weather conditions compared to forecasted weather. Produce daily risk weather assessments, prepare monthly weather station data, and other weather related reports.
  • Communicate weather forecast data and job impact on all operational calls, e.g., CERC events, Operational calls, inter-regional, etc. Review historical data and compare existing weather patterns with previous events in order to provide additional comparative tools to operating customers.
  • Perform other related assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor of Science Degree is required for 1H and 2H roles.

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree For Project Specialist 2H role a Bachelor's degree in meteorology or atmospheric science is preferred.
  • Master's Degree in meteorology or atmospheric science is preferred for Project Specialist 2H role.

Required Work Experience

  • For Specialist 1H role: Two years of work experience preferably in consulting, government, and/or an industry with specialization in meteorological analysis; a strong statistical background could also be considered.
  • For Project Specialist 2H role: Four years of relevant work experience preferably in consulting, government, and/or an industry with specialization in meteorological analysis.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communications, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic understanding of the operation of energy commodity systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ad hoc teams.
  • Demonstrable ability to initiate a project and manage it through completion.
  • Strong analysis capability essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Familiarity with formalized process evaluation methods preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Driver's License Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
