Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • -The Engineer will use technical competence to determine the civil scope-of-work for new capital projects as well as maintenance & repair projects, and the required support from other engineering disciplines.
  • -Prepare advanced planning documents, scoping documents, budget requests and appropriation documents. Participate in concept reviews, design field walks, and cost reviews.
  • -Prepare detailed specifications for projects. Work closely with bargaining unit personnel to determine design configurations and meet with vendors and customers to optimize proposed designs. Incorporate Safety by Design practices into work products.
  • - Perform Cost-Benefit economic evaluations. Establish project schedules.
  • - Provide support to Steam Production Station Maintenance / Operations / Purchasing / Construction, Steam Distribution and Gas Engineering Departments for the procurement and construction of projects.
  • - Supervise both in-house and out-of-house design efforts. Analyze existing and new structures.
  • - Prepares facility physical arrangements, engineering cost estimates, reviews physical schematics, and physical construction drawings.
  • - Conduct and participates in field evaluation/analysis of field equipment or system misoperations, prepares failure analysis reports and other analyses as may be required.
  • - Assist with ESR initiation and response, review and follow-up.
  • - Respond to occasional emergencies on a 24-7 basis.
  • - Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering And 2 years of full time work experience, to include one year of applicable engineering experience. ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A (1H) Applicable experience includes working experience in the design and analysis of concrete, steel and masonry structures. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact civil projects. Knowledge of structural inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering And 3 years of applicable engineering work experience. Passing grade of E.I.T required, ENGINEER (2L) Applicable experience includes working experience in the design and analysis of concrete, steel and masonry structures. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact civil projects. Knowledge of structural inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required. Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering And 8 years of applicable engineering work experience. Requires NYS PE License. SR ENGINEER (2H) Applicable experience includes working experience in the design and analysis of concrete, steel and masonry structures. Ability to perform structural analysis and utilize structural engineering and design software such as AutoCad, STAAD, and finite element analysis methods. Must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact civil projects. Knowledge of structural inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Masters degree in Engineering And 6 years of applicable engineering work experience. Requires NYS PE License. SR ENGINEER (2H) Applicable experience includes working experience in the design and analysis of concrete, steel and masonry structures. Able to perform structural analysis and utilize structural engineering and design software such as AutoCad, STAAD, and finite element analysis methods. Required Work Experience

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • - Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 2 years full time work experience to include 1 year applicable engineering experience. Applicable engineering experience includes experience in the design and analysis of concrete, steel and masonry structures.
  • - Required working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc.
  • - Must have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact civil projects.
  • - Knowledge of structural inspections and repairs, construction methods and cost estimating required.
  • - Computer proficiency required to include Microsoft Office suite to include Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint.
  • - Must have strong customer service instincts. Required

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • -Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel within service territory ( 5 Boros and Westchester ).
  • -Must be able and willing to work indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions.
  • -Must be able and willing to climb stairs and ladders.
  • -Must be able and willing to work in a power station to include noise, heat, within a confined space, on tall structures etc.
  • -Must be willing and able to wear the required PPE which may include full body fall protection, and other PPE as required ( hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, FR/Natural Fiber clothing ).
  • -Must be willing and able to participate in the company's storm response plan.
