Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Use technical competence to determine and develop the civil scope-of-work for a project including establishing the design basis.
  • Prepare advanced planning documents, scoping documents, budget requests and appropriation documents.
  • Prepare,review, and finalize detailed calculations, design documents, drawings, and specifications for projects.
  • Provide technical oversight and design verification reviews to engineering design by third party consultants including meeting with vendors and customers to optimize the proposed design.
  • Review designs internally as required for constructability and from a future operations and maintenance standpoint.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates and schedules.
  • Prepare or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
  • Perform economic evaluations.
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of cost estimates and schedules
  • Review/update/develop company-specific civil engineering standard specifications.
  • Provide technical solutions to operational/maintenance issues related to civil structures.
  • Ability to use engineering design software and understand/interpret analysis output.
  • Provide support to existing and proposed Company Substation & Transmission facilities, Facilities Buildings and Yards, Purchasing and Construction.
  • Departments for the procurement and construction of projects.
  • Supervise both in-house and out-of-house design efforts.
  • Provide direction, advice, documentation, and approved field changes to construction staff.
  • Respond to emergencies on a 24/7 basis.
  • Provides technical assistance as required.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD is a plus

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 2 years of full time work experience to include 1 year of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. - ASSOCIATE ENGINEER A (1H) Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 3 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. EIT registration or PE License preferred. ENGINEER (2L) Or
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors degree in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering And 8 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. PE License required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H) Or
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering and a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering And 6 years of applicable engineering experience in the design of all types of steel, concrete and masonry structures and a thorough knowledge of all applicable codes such as AISC, ACI, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc. PE License required - SENIOR ENGINEER (2H).

Required Work Experience

  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
  • The Substation Projects Engineering department seeks to recruit an industrious individual to join the Substation Projects Engineering Civil management team.
  • Requires either a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, or a Bachelors in any engineering discipline with a Masters degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Requires knowledge in the design of concrete, masonry and steel structures.
  • Must have working knowledge of all applicable codes such as ACI, AISC, NESC, ASCE, NYC Building Code, etc.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the safety and environmental issues that impact civil projects.
  • PE License required for Senior Engineer title.
  • Should be knowledgeable in basic engineering design and principles
  • The ideal candidate must be well organized, detail oriented, able to render sound business decisions, and have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • This individual must have a high regard for personal accountability and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence.
  • The selected candidate must be able to promote a positive work ethic in support of the Company's Corporate Values, possess a high energy level and have a demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace.
  • Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the demonstrated ability to effectively interact with various levels of personnel.
  • May be responsible for the indirect supervision of both in-house designers and out-of-house consulting engineers and requires capability of supervising both.
  • Requires computer proficiency to include Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Required
  • PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Ability to write specifications and standards and coordinate engineering projects and assignments.
  • EIT registration preferred for the Associate Engineer A title, and EIT/PE License preferred for the Engineer title.
  • Working knowledge of computer aided design programs such as STAAD, AutoCad, Mathcad.

  • Driver's License Required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) required for Senior Engineer (2H) title only. Required

Other Physical Demands

  • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the company service territory and to company locations and wear the required PPE as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work indoors and outdoors and in all weather conditions.
  • Must be willing and able to climb stairs and ladders as needed.
  • Must be willing and able to work in a substation environment with noise, heat, confined space, tall structures etc.
  • Must be willing and able to wear a respirator and full body fall protection as required.
